Advising Tips

GUEST Students

Granting a University Enrollment for a Specific Term (GUEST) is a registration option for individuals who want to take University classes without applying for formal admission to a degree program.

For specific information regarding the GUEST program and the registration process see:

Tips for Advising GUEST Students

- GUEST students will either be community members taking classes for personal/job related reasons, those getting ready for admission to Colorado State, or dismissed students seeking readmission by raising their cumulative GPA to 2.0.

- Dismissed students are treated as students on probation. Remember to calculate GPA, discuss academic resources, study strategies, time management and investigate the student’s goals, choice of major, motivation and priorities.

- Discuss whether or not a retroactive withdrawal is appropriate.

- Discuss educational goals and viability of remaining a Colorado State student. For students with a large quality point deficiency, we cannot prevent them from taking courses but need to assist them in being realistic about their situation.

- Because GUEST is not an application for admission to a degree program, there is no application fee, and transcripts and supporting documents are not required.

- Students seeking readmission from a dismissed status must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

- Remember to inform students that in order to graduate, they must complete 30 upper-division credits in residence at CSU. "In residence" courses include any CSU course recorded as CSU credit on the transcript.

- Courses UNAVAILABLE to GUEST students is located at on the Registrar's website:

Faculty may not be able to approve an override for GUEST students who request these courses.
