Notes on Business from Preview Advisor Training, 2009

Next Step – dealing with Transfer students – Students showing up with unofficial transcripts and wanted to COM to Business need to speak with Admissions before they are sent to the COB for Advising. We have found that many students think they are admissible because they have a transcript for one or the other course requirements, but often their cumulative GPA prevents them from being admitted.  The cumulative transfer  GPA that we can see in Aries is only the GPA on the courses that were accepted by CSU.  It does not include grades of D and F.  Only Admissions can determine if they fully meet the admission requirements to transfer into the COB.

PREVIEW – Dealing with incoming Freshmen – The College of Business and the Office of Admissions have agreed that if a student attending PREVIEW wants to change their major to business, then they only need to have a 111 index or higher and they will be allowed to COM.  Only students with a 111 or higher index should be sent to the COB PREVIEW Advisor.  If they do not have a 111 index, then they can COM to Undeclared Business Interest and should be sent to a CASA Advisor.

This should be something for all Advisors to know, as they all get students who want to COM to Business.

In Summary:

  • Next Step Students wanting to transfer into the COB should be sent to Admissions first.
  • PREVIEW Students wanting to Change their Major to Business should be sent to the COB PREVIEW Advisor if the student has a 111 index or higher, otherwise send them to a CASA Advisor to declare UNBU.
