Exploring Majors
Resources
Resources can be very valuable in helping you obtain information about majors and careers of interest. The following websites are a few ways that you can find out more about a major or career field, schedule an appointment with an advisor in a department you want to learn more about, or take a class that could give you a taste of a major.
- Career Center – The Career Center website has many useful resources related to career exploration. Check out the website for information about companies that hire CSU grads, salary information, and job or internship opportunities for specific majors.
- Academic & Career Horizons- Academic & Career Horizons website has information for every major on campus, including a narrative description of the major, characteristics and skills of individuals who do well in a specific major, career opportunities, and links to the general catalog for course lists.
- Major Themes- The major themes list can help you see what majors are available at CSU and what majors have similar focuses, such as Environmental Majors, Social Sciences / Human Service majors, Business related majors, etc.
- Key Advisors – Key Advisors are individuals from each department on campus who have volunteered to meet with students who may be interested in the major and answer questions about the major. Interviewing a key advisor is a great way to obtain information about a major.
- Exploratory Classes- Taking a course in the major you are interested in (or a pre-requisite course) is a great way to test the waters and see if you will be properly suited for a major.
- Majors, Minors, and Interdisciplinary Studies – The Colleges, Departments, and Majors list is a comprehensive list of all majors, minors, and concentrations within majors available at CSU. Be sure to explore all possible concentrations within the majors at CSU. There may be something you didn’t even realize existed at CSU!
