Health Professions at CSU

Work with a Health Professions Advisor:

The role of the Health Professions Advisor is to assist students in identifying professional school prerequisites and choosing appropriate CSU courses. As advisors to the CSU pre-health profession clubs, Health Profession advisors may suggest volunteer and community service opportunities and provide information from national health profession organizations. Health Profession advisors will guide students through the application process of specific professional programs in which the student is interested. In addition, Health Profession advisors are available to refer students to on- and off-campus support resources.

Requirements for application to a Health Professions Program:

Your path to a career in a human or animal health profession can be complicated. Completing the appropriate pre-requisite coursework and submitting a successful application to your choice of professional schools is an involved process. To be a competitive applicant, it is not enough to have a strong GPA (typically a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher) and to do extremely well on professional admission exams. Successful applicants must be knowledgeable about current health care topics and related ethical issues. Professional programs desire those with strong critical thinking and communication skills, who value life-long learning, and who are involved in their communities. Experiences that will enhance your application include volunteering with community and campus organizations, shadowing health care professionals, leadership in service clubs, and studies abroad.
