Podiatry

Description of the Profession

Podiatrists (Doctors of Podiatry, D.P.M.s) are specialists concerned with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of injuries, diseases, and disorders affecting the human foot and its related structures. Most podiatrists work in private practice, but more are forming group practices with other podiatrists and health care professionals. Podiatrists specialize in areas such as sports medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, dermatology, radiology, or diabetic foot care. As primary care professionals, they are often the first to detect vascular, cardiopulmonary, endocrine, and ontological diseases.
