Walk-in Guidelines
During the first two days of a semester, when all students are seen on a walk-in basis, a student may request to see a particular advisor. At all other times, a walk-in may not request to see a particular advisor. Walk-in appointments will be approximately 15 minutes. Walk-in hours are from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Typically one advisor will be assigned to walk-ins. However, in extremely busy times, schedules may be altered to accomodate two walk-in advisors available at a time. Students may NOT walk-in for course planning for the following semester.
Students may be seen on a walk-in basis for the following reasons:
- Appeals
- University Withdrawals
- Changing to an Intra-University major
- Fresh Start
- Quick questions
- Follow-up to a prior registration appointment
- Forms signed
- Preliminary major exploration
- Visiting prospective students who arrive with no prior appointment
To Enhance Communication Among Advisors and Reception Staff During Walk-in Hours
- When an advisor is scheduled for walk-in coverage, it is the advisor's responsibility to check for waiting students.
- Advisors should find a substitute for assigned walk-in coverage during scheduled leave and notify the reception staff to have them mark walk-in coverage on the substitute advisor's calendar.
- If there is an emergency, and a walk-in appointment will take significantly longer than 15 minutes, the advisor should inform the reception staff that s/he will need additional time with that particular student. The reception staff will try to find additional walk-in assistance.
- Advisors will balance the amount of time spent on walk-ins with the number of students waiting.
Reception Staff
- Determine if a walk-in is appropriate.
- Inform walk-in students of approximate waiting time.
- Inform the walk-in advisor if he or she has a lot of students waiting.
- Discontinue adding students to walk-ins when time does not permit any more.
